The New York City Marathon has an energy unlike any other race. For a few hours, runners from around the world move through the five boroughs as one enormous, constantly changing body.
In The Pack, I wanted to capture more than the competition. I was drawn to the rhythm created by the runners moving together—the repetition of bodies, colors and strides filling the street until the individual almost disappears into the collective.
Having photographed and experienced the marathon many times, I am always fascinated by this moment: thousands of individual stories, goals and reasons for running temporarily becoming part of something much larger.
The Pack — NYC Marathon, New York is about movement, endurance and the extraordinary human energy that defines one of the world's great running events.
